Hullo!

I decided to resurrect this blog after, well, nearly a year of absence. But then again, I’m not coming back with empty hands - I’m bringing you a full-on mixtape this time! There’s no constant theme, just songs which:

  • seem to be stuck in my head lately
  • fit together in some way
  • I absolutely love

So here’s that. The title (“Now We’re All Just Thoughts in the Sky”) came from the closing track by Kimbra - “Wandering Limbs”.

Now the sun’s gone today, I can lest towards space
Now transcend into blues, fade out from the ground breaks
I feel so beautiful, cut me off from the crowd
I got the birds eye view, now we’re all just thoughts in a sky

Enjoy and don’t forget to share this all around, but also - that’s the important part - to support the artists in any way you can. The ask box is open, so feel free to send in opinions, comments, questions, reviews, or future suggestions!

Mainly ‘cause I’m on a constant DD kick lately. Loving it. And they had a 10 year bandniversary this Hallowe’en!

Amanda Palmer - Behavior (Steel Train Cover)

And when I caught her, she said to me:
    “Look at love,
    It’s nothing but a shadow
Where you saw a heart -
    That was hollow
    Look at you,
    You’ve been chasing shadows.”

Trying to decide on a first song to post here was…well, hard. I’m terrible at making decisions. After narrowing my choices down to five songs I realised I had a completely different one set on repeat for the whole time. And suddenly I knew what I was going to post.

Amanda recorded “Behavior” for a compilation of Steel Train covers, “Terrible Thrills vol. 1”. Which, I gotta add, is a really good record, with covers at times much better than the originals. This song being one of the examples of it happening.

It starts with a really charming piano melody, quickly joined by quiet back-vocals. Amanda’s softer, but also much more haunting take on the song ends up playing in your head hours after you first listen to it. In a good way. Or maybe it’s just me, seeing as AFP is basically my hero. See for yourself, I guess.

And look out for the hilarious whisper-y ending, too.

The song is up for name-your-price download (which means you can, but don’t have to donate): HERE
