Amanda Palmer - Behavior (Steel Train Cover)
And when I caught her, she said to me:
“Look at love,
It’s nothing but a shadow
Where you saw a heart -
That was hollow
Look at you,
You’ve been chasing shadows.”
Trying to decide on a first song to post here was…well, hard. I’m terrible at making decisions. After narrowing my choices down to five songs I realised I had a completely different one set on repeat for the whole time. And suddenly I knew what I was going to post.
Amanda recorded “Behavior” for a compilation of Steel Train covers, “Terrible Thrills vol. 1”. Which, I gotta add, is a really good record, with covers at times much better than the originals. This song being one of the examples of it happening.
It starts with a really charming piano melody, quickly joined by quiet back-vocals. Amanda’s softer, but also much more haunting take on the song ends up playing in your head hours after you first listen to it. In a good way. Or maybe it’s just me, seeing as AFP is basically my hero. See for yourself, I guess.
And look out for the hilarious whisper-y ending, too.
The song is up for name-your-price download (which means you can, but don’t have to donate): HERE
